Enabling Perspectives from 2008*

1. Going to the poor may not be a current priority for your region, but it may be a priority for a few key people in your region or a future regional priority.

2. Going to the poor is an important part of going to and into the nations in every region.  In some cases, going to the poor may be a breakthrough to laying foundations for generations.  

3. Going to the poor does not always mean starting a special program.  Our primary strategy for going the poor should be through praying and intentionally raising laborers who are infected with the compassion of Jesus and who reach out to the poor through their natural relational networks.  (I.e., “Everything will change for some.  Something should change for everyone.” - Mutua Mahiaini)

4. Affirming the dignity and value of the poor requires listening to them regarding what they need rather than presuming that we know what they need or prescribing solutions.

5. The Core really can be implemented among the poor with long-term generational impact because they may be the most responsive part of the population. We need to develop ministry philosophy and skills that will bring ministering to the poor into the mainstream of The Navigators ministry. 

6. Taking the risks involved in going to the poor often requires more than passive affirmation.  It requires timely and enabling responses from leaders, and active support from a discipling community.
