Navigators around the world will be seeking God in fasting and prayer this fall, asking him to speak to us in a fresh way. Will you join us?
Twenty-one years ago, about 40 Navigators gathered in Cyprus with one question: What is the Holy Spirit saying to us? This fall, 68 Navigator leaders are returning to Cyprus with the same question. Those 68 have each invited their own group of friends and fellow workers to seek God with them in asking God what he has to say to us today regarding our progress in fulfilling the Calling, Values, and Vision that he gave us back in 2001. Now I’m writing to invite you to seek God with us too.
Why? All fruitful disciple-making movements seem to be fueled by extraordinary prayer. Jesus promised a special demonstration of his power and his presence when we agree in prayer. He said in Matthew 18:19 that if two of us agree or harmonize our prayers about anything that we ask, it will be done for us. That’s power. He went on to say in Matthew 18:20 that where two or three are gathered or led together in our praying, He’s right there with us. That’s presence.
Praying together like that is exactly what happened in Acts. Luke described it with the Greek word homothumadon:
Acts 1:14 “These all with one mind [homothumadon] were continually devoting themselves to prayer….”
Acts 2:46 “Day by day continuing with one mind [homothumadon] in the temple….”
Acts 4:24 “When they heard this (the threats of the priests and elders), they lifted their voices to God with one accord [homothumadon]….”
Acts 5:12 “At the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were taking place among the people; and they were all with one accord [homothumadon] in Solomon’s portico.”
Then in Acts 13 God launched a disciple-making movement among the Gentiles through extraordinary prayer. “While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’” That’s what he did in the East African Revival. That’s what he did through the Moravians. That’s what he did through Dawson Trotman 80 years ago. That’s what he’s doing among hundreds of disciple-making movements across the world today. And it looks like he may be doing it among us again.
Here's what we’re inviting you to do:
Set aside time for special prayer and/or fasting each week for four weeks, October 17 – November 11.
Set aside time for extra prayer and/or fasting each day while the 68 meet in Cyprus for an International Council from November 12-16.
Those who sign up at this link by 7 October will receive a special prayer guide update each of those four weeks, and each day of the International Council. Then after the Council we’ll also send a summary of highlights of what we’re seeing God do.
There is no more powerful way to thwart the enemy’s plans than for us to stand as one in faith (Philippians 1:27-28). Let’s believe!
