Introduction
Every year, Navigators set aside the third Saturday in March for prayer as a Worldwide Partnership. This is a tremendous opportunity for us to work together and fellowship with colleagues across our international partnership.
Mutua Mahiaini, International President of The Navigators, said, “Each year, we Navigators from every corner of the globe have the privilege of joining together during our Worldwide Day of Prayer to spend time with the Lord. We may be physically separated by thousands of miles, but we could never be closer than we are on this day when all our attention and focus is on God. We could not have more focus, alignment, and energy than we get through coming to the throne of God. We could never have more fire burning in our hearts, or miraculous faith for what lies ahead, than what the Holy Spirit generates among us as we pray around the world. Thank you for making this a priority.”
This prayer guide offers a tool that allows everyone to join together in praying for some key requests from our seven regions, as well as some requests that are relevant to us all. We encourage you to use this list not only during the Worldwide Partnership Day of Prayer on March 18, 2023, but throughout the year.
Some people like to use this prayer guide as a sequential structure for how to use the day. It starts by encouraging us to pray through our Navigator Calling, Values, and Vision (The Core). We then move into the prayer requests presented by the International Executive Team (IET), and then into the requests from each region (in alphabetical order). However you choose to use it, may you enjoy a time of sweet fellowship with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Our Calling
To advance the Gospel of Jesus and his kingdom into the nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling among the lost.
Our Values
1) The passion to know, love, and become like Jesus Christ.
2) The truth and sufficiency of the Scriptures for the whole of life.
3) The transforming power of the Gospel.
4) The leading and empowering of the Holy Spirit.
5) Expectant faith and persevering prayer rooted in the promises of God.
6) The dignity and value of every person.
7) Love and grace expressed among us in community.
8) Families and relational networks in discipling the nations.
9) Interdependent relationships in the body of Christ in advancing the Gospel.
Our Vision
We see a vital movement of the Gospel, fueled by prevailing prayer, flowing freely through relational networks and out into the nations. Workers for the kingdom are next door to everywhere!
What characterizes this movement? A heart for the whole person . . . climates of grace . . . compassion for the vulnerable and broken . . . sacrificial unity embracing diversity . . . cultural relevance and sensitivity . . . interdependence with others in the wider family of God . . . transformed men and women, fragrant with humility and the aroma of Christ. They are marked by a deep engagement with and obedience to the Scriptures as the Word of God. They believe the promises of God. Both personally and in committed communities, they seek to know and pursue the purposes of God.
Laborers and leaders are emerging, with an increasing passion for Jesus Christ. They demonstrate faith and courage as they live and move among their friends and families. As spiritual parents, they model authenticity and relevance.
Ordinary people, in many walks of life, are joyfully leading integrated lives. They live as fruitful insiders among the lost. There is perseverance in the face of hardship and suffering. Around the world, many are coming to faith. As they become established in discipleship, some grow to be foundational for further generations. The Gospel spreads naturally and powerfully, as believers share Christ . . . life upon life . . . family to family.
Crossing cultures into new cities and nations, teams of mobile pioneers intentionally proclaim and embody the good news of Jesus Christ, in such a way that transformed communities multiply. These communities are bringing joy and hope to their surrounding environments as relationships are healed and justice increases. Indeed, the lost and unreached burn in their hearts, as they move the Gospel into the nations.
The leaders of this movement, developed and empowered for God’s service, live out a growing commitment to Christlikeness. They are dependent upon the Holy Spirit. New generations of leaders are emerging, rooted incarnationally in their local and national contexts. An international leadership community brings focus, alignment, and energy to their movement. These leaders are committed to long-term impact in generational ministry.
In 2019, many of us started praying for 40 Navigator missionary units (couples or singles) to be sent out to unreached and underreached people groups. So far, 28 units have gone out, and 12 more are in the process of preparing to go. Praise the Lord for raising up these 40 units!
Each year, the IET and Regional Directors (RDs) identify approximately 20 cross-cultural priority missions opportunities. Pray that God would raise up men and women to fill these needs. The list can be found online at www.navigatorsworldwide.org/worldwide-missions or below.
Please:
Pray that the Africa workers for the Kingdom of Jesus Christ would be men and women who abide daily in Him. (John 15:1-5) Men and women who have a habit of drawing near to God and hold unwaveringly to the hope we have in Him. (Hebrews 10: 22-23)
Pray we would grow in our personal experience of God through daily submission to His will, obedience to the Word, faithful fellowship with Him in prayer, listening, and committing to being transformed day by day into the image of Christ, abiding in the presence and the work of the Holy Spirit. That all labourers and leaders will continually deepen their search for God and be constantly visited and renewed by Him through the fullness of His Spirit. “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” (Psalm 42:1-2)
Pray that God will help The Navigators in Africa to take the Gospel to the unreached and under-reached nations and people groups (e.g. the poor, urban majority in cities, people from a major religion, the rural, oral learners, and outcasts) on the continent.
Pray that God who makes a way in the desert and who sets rivers in arid places will increase our thirst for Him and His purposes. (Psalm 63) Ask God to pour out His Spirit on the unreached Africa nations, to breathe life into the dry bones (Ezekiel 37:4-6) and give us a spiritual inheritance in these countries. (Psalm 2:8)
Pray that people in Africa will have a deep encounter with Jesus resulting in transformation that makes a tangible difference in areas such as family life, poverty, corruption, and injustice. That there will be clarity on critical issues in character and life that hinder the Gospel and transformation in the diverse contexts and cultures in Africa. “Who will not fear you, O Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed." (Revelation 15: 4)
Pray for wisdom, boldness, and courage to embrace new strategies and ways that are biblically, creatively, and culturally relevant for resourcing the ministry in Africa, cognizant of 1 Chronicles 29:14 “But who am I, and who are my people that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.”
Thank God for The Navigators in Africa who have embraced the Operation $2 per month to support missions efforts in Africa. Pray that more countries and more labourers will make it a priority in their personal and national budgets to contribute to this initiative. (2 Corinthians 9:7-15)
Pray that God’s Spirit will breathe new life into our ministries like students, women, men, church, families, community, cities, people from a major religion, market place, poor and vulnerable, Discipling for Development, Business as a Mission, Ministry Partner Development, Africa Partners, Nav Care, and Navigator schools that would result in workers being raised to reach out with the Gospel into the Nations. (Matthew 9:36-38)
Pray that all the National Leadership Teams will aspire to wholeheartedly create the necessary environment for young labourers and leaders to emerge, be equipped and trained.
Pray for the successful meeting of National Directors in March 2023 so that each of the leaders will have a renewed passion for the purposes of God.
Pray that God will give us direction about the different things that we need to do with Conventional Income labourers and leaders to increase their efficiency and effectiveness in the advance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That the Lord would multiply the lives of these new labourers by His power and keep His promises to them according to Isaiah 43:4 and Isaiah 60:22. That the Lord will fill their hearts to overflowing and protect them from the enemy, that in God alone will they seek life. (John 10:10)
Pray for encouragement, strength, wisdom, and vision to work on critical things for laying foundations of the Gospel and raising foundational generations in all our 21 pioneering countries. Pray for the Lord of the harvest to raise labourers and send missionaries to these countries. (Isaiah 61:4)
Focus of Leaders
Working Together in Different Teams
We thank God for bringing people from different backgrounds with strengths and contributions to serve on various teams in the Asia Pacific region.
We realise the greater need in collaborating and working together as a team and with various teams within the region with the posture to love and serve. We need to be more inclusive and humbler to see the realisation of the Asia Pacific Faith Directions with The Core as a guideline. (Ephesians 4:2-6)
The Next Generation
We are also aware of the challenge in ensuring the next generation is being embedded with the DNA of The Core based on Scriptures as well as experiencing this life-on-life and imitating the faith of elders. (Psalm 78:4-7)
Holy Spirit
We want to be sensitive and alert as God leads us in new ways and along unfamiliar paths. We will need to listen more to one another regarding what God is saying to us individually and as a group. (Isaiah 42:16)
New Works
"The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." (Matthew 9:37)
Formation of the Asia Pacific Missions Team
We thank God for the new Asia Pacific Missions Team to help in new works, grow missions culture, encourage better collaboration among countries, and facilitate sending across the region. Continue to pray that God will lead and use this team as they serve Him.
Country #1 – God has led a couple to return to start a business in this country. We are recruiting people to join the team there. Pray Ephesians 4:1-3 for the people who will be joining that there may be oneness in heart and mind.
Country #2 – We are thankful that God has answered our prayers through another couple willing to go there as professionals. Pray for open doors and open hearts to the Message of Jesus and for God to raise up a foundational generation in these places for the advance of the Gospel.
Country #3 – Pray for strategic equipping for one team and preparation for another team who plan to be there by the middle of the year.
Country #4 – One of our partnering countries has adopted another country. Pray for labourers willing to be there on a long-term basis.
Country #5 – Thank God for exciting missions opportunities in other countries in Asia. Ask God to protect the people involved, to provide for all their needs (including more team members), and to give wisdom to the Asia Pacific Leadership Team and Point Persons involved. Pray for the advance of the Gospel of Jesus and His Kingdom in these places.
Melbourne – Ask God to raise up new leaders to pioneer a grassroots student ministry on the campus of Melbourne University and be part of the Melbourne city team. Pray for a couple to take the primary leadership role who would bring a younger couple or single(s) to work on the campus with them.
National Directors Orientation
A National Directors Orientation will be held in August for this region. Pray for wisdom as we plan to spend time with new National Directors from 5-6 different countries. As travelling out of the country may be challenging for some, let’s pray God will provide a way to meet. The time spent together in seeking God and enjoying one another will be a significant one as they start their journey to serve as leaders. (Mark 10:45)
Peace and Stability
We are in a season filled with tremendous economic, cultural, spiritual, and political challenges. Pray for peace both within the countries of Eurasia and between the governments of Eurasia. Pray for God to intervene in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Pray that God would prevent further loss of life and that He will use these challenges to open hearts to Jesus.
New and Young Believers
Pray that God would anchor the women and men new to faith in Jesus with a genuine hunger for the Word of God. Pray for them to walk in the Spirit under the Lordship of Christ. Ask God to break down sinful strongholds in their lives to yield freedom and transformation.
Protection and Unity
Pray for spiritual, emotional, and physical protection, and endurance for our long-term local and cross-cultural staff. Pray that they would unite their local teams and share responsibility as they pursue fruitfulness in personal ministry. Pray that our local laborers, leaders, and staff would have a shared identity rooted in Christ.
Generational Laborers and New Laborers
Pray that God would establish local communities of generational laborers and leaders in each city where we work, using our national laborers to impact a new generation of believers and raise new workers for the Kingdom. Praise God for the new missionary couples and singles joining existing teams and for God to give more who are willing to serve cross-culturally. Pray for a couple who have just been approved to relaunch a work in Central Asia.
Evangelism
Pray for our national laborers to experience breakthroughs in fruitful evangelistic efforts within family and relational networks. Pray for the efforts to reach displaced Ukrainians with the Gospel.
Gospel’s Advance in Europe
Pray that all European Navigators will grow deeper in their understanding of the transforming power of the Gospel for all cultures in Europe. An example of a subculture is the secularized Europeans who have no religious background and have never been exposed to the Bible. Pray for new missionary teams to help pioneer new works in Europe.
Regional Director Selection Council
On March 10th-12th we held the Selection Council for appointing a new Regional Director for the NavEurope region. The timing of the Council with the ‘publishing’ of this prayer guide means the outcome of the Selection Council isn’t known at the time of writing this. Pray for Bill and Cathy Sparks as they start to transition out of the role and begin the hand-over to the new RD. Pray for the new Regional Director as they take on this new responsibility, that they will know God’s grace, wisdom and strength for all that the role requires.
Next Generation
Pray for the Next Generation Leaders Group who finished their two-year leader development program with some days away in early March. The purpose of the two-year programme was to cultivate a community of younger European leaders, providing them with practical leadership training, and exploring biblical and organizational leadership skills together. Although the NextGen programme has ended, pray for those who took part that they will continue to grow in their leadership of others. Give thanks for the community that has been created, pray that this will continue and that they will continue to support each other as they experience the ups and downs of leadership.
Missional Enterprises
Pray that Europe’s missional enterprises would be financially sustainable, make a social impact, and be environments for spiritual transformation as they continue to serve Europeans especially in Eastern and Central Europe.
Students Work
Pray for the growth of student ministries. Pray for creativity in engaging with new students and in training new student leaders.
20s and 30s
Pray that God would strengthen our ministries to people in their twenties and thirties, helping them to grow in generational disciple-making. Pray for new initiatives that are starting in Europe focused on this age group.
Praises regarding last year’s requests
The “Your Calling” (Tu Llamamiento in Spanish) program was launched in August of 2022 with 121 next generation leaders committed to a 2-year process to discover and grow in their contribution in the expansion of Christ’s Kingdom.
Many of the older generation laborers are investing in the next generation as mentors in the “Your Calling” program.
Regional initiative with next generation leaders (“Your Calling”)
Although most of the participants have been able to establish a growing trust with their program mentors, some have found it difficult. Please pray that these relationships can flourish, stimulating both the older and younger generation to grow in faith. (Isaiah 43:19)
Please pray that God would raise up a new generation of laborers who are trusting God to make disciples of Jesus and asking themselves the same questions we find in Romans 10:14-15.
International GEN meeting in Monterrey, Mexico, March 24-26
"When the Foundations are Collapsing, What Can the Righteous Do?"
During this missional enterprise gathering, entrepreneurs from around the globe will open the Scriptures, share real-life stories from their part of the world, dialogue together around Kingdom practices, and explore practical opportunities to expand God’s Kingdom through business.
Please pray for these men and women to walk away with a clearer vision of how God sees enterprise as a means for expanding His Kingdom through transformed lives. (2 Corinthians 5:17-19)
Endurance and hope for the local works in LAN
Bearing with the failures of others requires a deep conviction that God will accomplish what He has said He will do in the Scriptures. Please ask God to fill us with His endurance and hope so that by encouraging one another, we can glorify our God by living harmonious lives. (Romans 15:1-7)
ADVANCE!
Once again, the MENA Region started the year with 22 days (January 10-31) of worship through prayer and fasting. Our Navigator Calling begins with the words “To advance…” and we feel that the Lord has placed this on our heart as we enter into 2023. Pray with us, as we trust that God will advance His Kingdom in the MENA Region throughout 2023 and beyond.
MENA Region Five-year Missions Master Plan
We praise God for the work of His hand as we have begun to implement our Five-year Missions Master Plan. Our established starting point is Acts 13:1-4 to guide our posture as we look to send believers throughout the MENA Region. We are so encouraged by the doors the Lord has been opening before us to expand to new places in the MENA Region.
Over the past year, two exploratory trips were taken to a country in the Gulf. The Lord was clearly at work preparing the path before our team. Pray with us that God will finalize preparations for our team to return and begin to live and minister there.
Internal Expansion
One of our countries in North Africa and one of our countries in the Middle East are actively working to expand to new locations within their respective countries. Pray that the Lord would continue to raise up the laborers and clearly guide them as they establish themselves in the new places the Lord has called them to be.
Country Leader Selection
One of our teams in North Africa has matured to the point that we are ready to help them select a Country Leader from among themselves. Pray with us that we would be receptive to the Holy Spirit’s clear guidance and leading as to whom to entrust with this responsibility.
Open Door
Through a series of trips to a new country in the Middle East, we have been astounded by the opportunities for ministry that we’ve found. In a portion of this country, there is a specific people group that was disproportionately and brutally wronged by ISIS. We have had the privilege of connecting with a believer among this people group who is boldly reaching out to his own people. Pray with us that God would continue to open doors and level the paths for us to be able to send teams into this portion of the country.
Canada
Praise God that people are coming to faith in Christ and new leaders are joining us. We thank God for the encouragement and hope this gives us.
That God would give those in campus ministry and those involved in leading our campus works clear pathways forward through the challenging realities of ministering on campuses in this country.
That everything we do as ministers of the Gospel here would flow from a deep joy in the Lord, genuine love for people, and sacrificial lives.
That God would continue to help us recruit more staff by creating favourable conditions, effective strategies and clear inviting.
That God would continue to help us empower labourers by identifying, serving and equipping them.
Just as justice is the foundation of God’s throne, may it be the foundation of all of our work and may this resonate deeply with all of our staff and volunteers.
Caribbean
Please pray Isaiah 42:10 and Isaiah 54:2-3 for the Caribbean work. In this pioneering work, ask God to strengthen and establish the foundational generations of national laborers in the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago and another country. Pray that our ministries would grow toward local sustainability in finances, leaders, and laborers. Pray that we will give appropriate focus to mainstream society, such as among Roman Catholics and the economically disadvantaged. Ask God for nationals who have resources and connections to help sustain the work long term.
Please pray for the situation in Haiti. The socio-political chaos in this country is hitting an all-time low, placing our staff and laborers in challenging, risky, and even dangerous situations. God has shown us that He is working this way throughout our Worldwide Partnership. Pray we can discern His will in knowing how to adjust to these situations, when to stay, and when to move. Pray for wisdom as to our country leader in Haiti and his family — to discern if and when to relocate temporarily and yet continue ministry from within or from afar.
In terms of missions sending, pray for wisdom as to receiving a couple and a single missionary from the Francophone Africa Navigators to minister in Haiti. This couple and single missionary continue to raise funds and be convicted to pursue this move, in spite of the socio-political situation in Haiti. Pray for wisdom to discern the right timing and strategy to make this move a reality.
Lastly, pray that the Caribbean could, one day, become a sender of missionaries to hard-to-reach parts of the world. Pray that God would help us successfully launch missional enterprises in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and another country.
United States
Praise for the Lord’s Faithfulness
Praise God for the work He is doing to draw the US Navigators into a deeper work of unity and interdependence. There is great movement toward trusting God for something only He can do, both in us and through us, to fulfill our Calling and live into our Vision. We are heading into our National Staff Gathering (once every 4 years) at the end of 2023, and we are excited about the ways we anticipate God using this event to bring greater focus, energy, and alignment to raising up everyday disciplemakers next door to everywhere.
Prayer for the Lord’s leading as we pursue our 2030 National Strategy
Our 2030 strategy is reinvigorating our focus on everyday disciplemakers.
Pray for the glory of God to be manifested in all the corners and nations of our country and the world through flourishing communities of Jesus-loving, Word-living disciplemakers.
Pray for clear leading from the Lord as we identify some older wineskins that need to be traded in for new wineskins.
Pray for our staff and ministry friends to grow into greater faith with a bigger view of God.
Pray we can discern together what the Lord is asking us to grab hold of and what we must let go of!
Pray that, as we listen to the Lord, we will swiftly and courageously submit to the Lord’s leading with Joshua 1:9 clarity and confidence.
Pray we will be vigilant as Navigators to live the Gospel, modeling a faith that unifies, invites, and restores image-bearers in a country torn by cultural, political, and philosophical differences. Pray our staff will bring light, hope, truth, AND blessing to those around us in a way that leads to healing, conviction, and redemption.
Pray we will increasingly be experienced as a welcoming place for people of all ethnicities, cultures, and languages, speaking truth while engaging in humility with a wide variety of people on their faith journey.
