Looking south across the Caribbean Sea, young Dominicans in the Navigator work enjoy free time on the Malecón boardwalk in Santo Domingo, the nation’s capital city.

“The most profound beauty in the Dominican Republic is not the shores, but in the people," says Joe Maschhoff, who helps lead our pioneering work in the Caribbean. For Joe and his team, discipling others “is about real, unrehearsed life. It is about inviting people into your life and being deeply involved in theirs,” he says.

In Santo Domingo, which is home to about three million people, Navigators invite young people to share fun, food, relationships, the Scriptures, counsel for life, and most importantly, Christ. This work often takes place at the oceanside, which is central to the culture’s rhythm and identity.

“The country has a culture that needs the transforming power of Christ,” he says. Joe and his team are praying for Dominicans who will be a foundation for advancing the Gospel in the Caribbean (and beyond) for generations to come. Please join them in that prayer.
