What does the Bible say about responding to things like poverty and racism?
Many statistics confirm that more than four billion people worldwide live in poverty. Others live under the control of corrupt governments where injustice prevails. The global coronavirus pandemic has hit those people hardest. In the U.S. and in other Western nations, protests have led to debates about systemic racism.
What do the Scriptures have to say about these important questions? “Christians know that [poverty] grieves the heart of God, but what can we do when the problem appears insurmountable?”
That is one of the questions addressed by a NavPress Bible study titled Responding Biblically to Poverty, Corruption, and Injustice. Developed by a team of international Navigator leaders, the study “examines our longing for justice and a life unmarred by destitution.” It also “explores what God says about living out his righteousness” in response to one of the most pressing problems of our times.
Specifically, the study presents the following chapters:
The Heartache of Man and the Heartbeat of God
What Went Wrong and What Can Be Done?
People Who Transform Communities
Communities that Heal Relationships and Increase Justice
The Nature of the Gospel of Jesus and His Kingdom
The Gospel of Jesus and His Kingdom in Action
